Two games were played today; the first was Istanbul, which was a first-time play for us, having owned it for some time, but we were nervous about how complicated it was. The first game took about an hour and a half, but much of this time was spent learning how the various cards work in different circumstances.

We have the "Big Box" version, but for the first play, we stripped it back to just the base game and components, and we were close at the end of the game, with either of us possibly winning within a single turn. We think it plays pretty well at 2 players; you add a marker for the 3 missing players at various positions on the board, which probably helps stop you getting too many coins too quickly, but isn't too much of a distraction.

The second game we played was one of our favourites, Quacks of Quedlinburg, with the Herb Witches Expansion. This is a "push your luck" style game where you build a pool of counters in your bag and draw them out, trying to avoid the white counters totalling over 7. It's a straightforward concept, but I seem incapable of not pushing my puck too far, and I think broke the limit on 6 out of the eight rounds. This means you miss out on bonus points, which inevitably led to me losing the game by a few points I probably could have gained in any of those 6 rounds.
